- Immunohistochemistry of oral lesions: This study primarily investigated the expression of oncogenes, tumor suppressor genes, growth factors, growth factor receptors, and cytokeratin in oral precancerous lesions, oral cancer, salivary gland tumors, odontogenic cysts, and odontogenic tumors using single or multiple antibodies and immunohistochemical staining methods. The study will greatly contribute to understanding the malignant potential of oral precancerous lesions and the pathogenesis of oral lesions.
- Photodynamic diagnosis and treatment of oral precancerous and cancerous lesions: In recent years, we have developed autofluorescence spectroscopy and dye fluorescence spectroscopy, including 5-ALA-guided protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) fluorescence spectroscopy, to assist in the diagnosis of oral precancerous and cancerous lesions. Our studies have shown that autofluorescence spectroscopy using excitation light at 330 nm and ALA-guided PpIX fluorescence spectroscopy using excitation light at 410 nm can help distinguish oral submucous fibrosis (OSF), normal oral mucosa, oral precancer, and oral cancer. Therefore, these fluorescence spectroscopy techniques may help determine appropriate biopsy sites in large areas of oral leukoplakia or erythroplakic lesions. In addition, photodynamic therapy with topical application of 20% ALA can be used as an adjuvant therapy for oral precancerous lesions and oral cancer. Our research has found that it has good therapeutic effects on verrucous hyperplasia and erythroplakia and may have potential for treating verrucous carcinoma and early-stage oral cancer.
