Expertise:
- Dental physiology, occlusion, fixed prosthodontics
Main research areas:
Chewing physiology, occlusal reconstruction, fixed prosthodontics, and craniomaxillary disorder treatment
- Masticatory System Physiology: Careful observation and analysis of the role of human masticatory organs such as teeth, periodontals, jawbone, head and neck muscles, and nervous system in jaw movements such as chewing, swallowing, and pronunciation, using electromyography, bite force testers, photoelectric and magnetic pole jaw movement trackers, and jaw movement recording and analysis systems. In order to observe the effect of occlusal surface morphology on the health of the masticatory system, a computerized occlusal morphology analyzer was used; In order to measure the muscle mass of the masticatory muscles, magnetic resonance photography and ultrasound systems are also used. In order to measure bite force and chewing efficiency, an evaluation system for the chewing efficiency of artificial foods with known hardness and soft foods was developed.
- Temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscle pain: Myalgia caused by temporomandibular joint lesions, non-pathological morphological or positional changes, muscle tension, muscle fatigue, or muscle trauma has been widely studied in terms of etiology, incidence, pain presentation, diagnosis, and treatment. At this stage, greater attention is being given to diagnostic methods and the evaluation of muscle pain, with particular emphasis on the effectiveness of various clinical examinations, instrumental assessments, and imaging studies. In recent years, molecular biology methods have also been used to explore the molecular mechanisms of muscle fatigue and muscle pain and to understand changes in ion channels and receptors during muscle fatigue and pain.
- Clinical prosthodontic research: In addition to studies of bite force, occlusal surface morphology, and temporomandibular joint and masticatory muscle dysfunction, clinical research also focuses on masticatory and bruxism sounds after prosthesis placement, the design of implant-supported prostheses, and the use and design of magnetic attachments. For magnetic attachments, we have collaborated with Aichi Steel in Japan to develop new magnets of different shapes and sizes for clinical use.
